A-SMYLE finalists meet with Ambassador Moore
Ambassador Moore opened a pre-departure orientation for A-SMYLE finalists, alternates and their parents on May 7. A-SMYLE is a US Embassy program that allows high school-age Montegrin students (ages 15-17) to spend a year in the United States, living with a family and attending a U.S. high school. There are seven finalists and two alternatives this year; currently there are 20 students in the US who will be returning to Montenegro shortly.
American Councils’ placement organizations work with local coordinators in communities across the United States and through those coordinators, finds appropriate family and school placements. Local coordinators lead a pre-arrival orientation with the host family, a post-arrival orientation with the student, and provide monthly reports on each student's behavior and adjustment.
