U.S. Welcomes Successful First Year of Albanian–Language Teachers' Studies in Montenegro

On Friday, June 3 U.S. Consulate Podgorica’s Principal Officer, Hoyt Yee; Minister for National Minorities and Ethnic Groups, Gzim Hajdinaga; the Mayor of Podgorica, Miomir Mugosa; the President of Democratic Union of Albanians, Ferhat Dinosha, and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, and the University of Montenegro, will meet with students of the Albanian-language Teachers’ Studies at the Rectorate building of the University of Montenegro. Mr. Yee and the other participants will talk with the first generation of students of the Albanian-language Teachers’ Studies of the University of Montenegro about their experiences during the first year of the program.

The American people, through an $80,000 donation, helped the University reconstruct teaching facilities and purchase computers and other technical equipment for the first Albanian language university program in Montenegro.

The Albanian-language Teachers' Studies in Montenegro started in the Fall with 45 students enrolled. Professors from the University of Montenegro, along with a number of professors from the University of Skodra (Albania), have taught the first group of students.

Journalists interested in covering the event should be at the Rectorate of the University of Montenegro, in Podgorica, no later than 11:45 on June 3.
