July 29, 2005
U.S. Consulate Podgorica’s Principal Officer Hoyt Yee, and Police Program Manager from the Embassy in Belgrade, Gary Bennett, met today with Montenegro's Minister of Interior, Dragan Djurovic, upon the completion of a special one-week training program on anti-terrorism held at the Police Academy in Danilovgrad. Two American experts, Lieutenant Kedrick Wills and Sergeant Douglas Schoenborn, from the Idaho State Police, conducted the training for 18 Montenegrin police officers.
The Anti-Terrorism Training is part of the 2005 U.S. Assistance Program for Police Reform in Montenegro, funded by the American people through the Department of State and the Department of Justice. The program provides training and equipment valued at over $2.5 million to support the reform and modernization of Montenegro’s police. This assistance also includes a Resident Police Advisor to the Police Academy and to the Ministry of Interior; the renovation and equipment for classrooms and other facilities of the Police Academy; equipment and training for a modern forensics laboratory; and training of police officers on investigating trafficking and other organized crime.
