U.S. Supports Bar's Treasury Department

U.S. Consulate Podgorica’s Principal Officer, Hoyt Yee, Montenegro’s Deputy Minister of Finance, Milan Dabovic, Mayor of Bar, Anka Vojvodic, and Good Local Governance (GLG) Project Chief of Party, Michael Sinclair, will participate in the dedication ceremony of the new Bar Municipal Treasury System on Saturday, April 9.

The Good Local Governance project is funded by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Urban Institute. Support to the Bar Treasury Department includes computer equipment, installation of the Treasury Management System software, and training for employees on the new system. Bar is the first coastal municipality in Montenegro that is currently operating under the modern treasury system required by the Law on Local Governance Finance.

The goal of the project is to improve the efficiency of local government and help local authorities meet the needs of their citizens. U.S. assistance will contribute to the implementation of the Law on Local Governance Finance.

The GLG project will also organize a regional conference with representatives of the southern municipalities about treasury operations and their significance for municipal budget on the same day.
