U.S. Finances Equipment for Budva Drug Abuse Prevention Office
April 19, 2005
U.S. Consulate Podgorica’s Principal Officer, Hoyt Yee, Acting Mayor of Budva, Veselin Marković, USAID General Development Officer, Amy Nolan Osborn, and IRD Chief of Party, Robert Harris, will formally open a newly established Counseling Office for Drug Abuse Prevention in Budva, on Wednesday, April 20.
The procurement of the office equipment was funded by the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), via the Community Revitalization through Democratic Action (CRDA) program. The project was implemented by International Relief and Development (IRD) in cooperation with the Municipality of Budva.
The Counseling Office for Drug Abuse Prevention was initiated by three Budva Community Action Committees that work within the CRDA program to identify and articulate the needs of their communities. The Municipality of Budva provided office space, and USAID financed the furniture, a computer, televisions, and a DVD-player. Testing kits used in the process of identifying addicts will soon be provided. The newly founded "Budva Foundation for Drug Abuse Prevention," in cooperation with donors, will be responsible for maintaining the office and paying the salary of a professional counselor.
Journalists interested in covering the event should be in front of the Counseling Office, located at Trg sunca 2 in Budva on the first floor of the "Montenegroturist" building, no later than 11:45 on April 20th.
