U.S. Helps Reconstruct Dajbabe Electricity Network

December 2, 2005

On Monday December 5, U.S. Consulate Podgorica's Principal Officer, Arlene Ferrill, Deputy Mayor of Podgorica, Djordje Suhih, Public Electricity Company Technical Director, Miso Radenovic, International Relief and Development (IRD) Chief of Party, Robert Harris, and representative of the Community Action Committee (CAC) for Zabjelo, Dahna and Dajbabe, Vukic Konjevic, will formally mark the completion of the reconstruction of the Dajbabe electricity supply network.

The project was funded by the American people through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the Public Electricity Company in Podgorica and implemented by IRD. The United States invested $37,500 in the project. The community of Dajbabe, with the support of the Public Electricity Company, contributed more than $30,000 to the project.

The project’s main goal is to improve economic development through providing adequate electrical power essential for the start-up and enhancement of local businesses and agricultural production. The project included the construction of a new sub-station and reconstruction of the old, low-voltage electricity network. The investments in the improvement of local and regional economic development will be continued within the new “Community Revitalization through Democratic Action - Economy” (CRDA-E) program in the coming months.

Journalists interested in covering the event should be at the furniture factory “Bambis” in Dajbabe no later than 10:45 on December 5.
