U.S. Consulate Supports Eco-Tourism Development

February 7, 2005
The United States Consulate
Podgorica

On Tuesday, February 8, U.S. Consul Hoyt Brian Yee will meet organizers and participants of the project "Creating a basis for eco-tourism in the area of Komovi Mountain and Lake Skadar” in Virpazar. The project was initiated by the NGO “Green Home” and funded by the people of the United States through the Consulate’s Democracy Commission Small Grants Program.

The project’s goals are to promote the natural beauty, ecological and biological values of the two regions, and to create a basis for eco-tourism as an opportunity for strengthening Montenegro’s economy. Through this project, Green Home organized a conference on the development of eco-tourism, printed and distributed brochures on the ecological and tourism values of the regions, designed the web site http://www.ecotourism.cg.yu/, marked eco-trails, refurbished two look-out points, and conducted promotional visits to Komovi Mountain and Skadar Lake.

Journalists interested in covering the meeting of Consul Yee with the NGO “Green Home's” representatives should be at the restaurant “Pelikan” in Virpazar no later than 10:40 on Monday, February 8.
