VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Executive Housekeeper/House Manager:

The Executive Housekeeper/House Manager (EHM) is responsible for supervising the day-to-day functions in the house.  This includes managing representational events, overseeing Official Residence Expense (ORE) finances, sharing housekeeping duties, and supervising the Chief of Mission Residence (CMR) staff.  Responsibilities also include keeping up with maintenance and repairs of the house, appliances and equipment. The EHM reports to the Ambassador, but takes direction as well from the Ambassador's OMS and Protocol Assistant.  The EHM recommends to the Ambassador personnel actions, including those related to hiring, dismissal, and salary.

Duties include:
• Supervises the household staff at the CMR.  (Occasionally, the incumbent will manage events and/or staff at the Deputy Chief of Mission's Residence (DCMR).)
• Knowledge of social etiquette and formal service.
• Knowledge of proper maintenance for fine dining equipment.
• Receives guests at the door and supervises the reception of visitors.  
• Assists with staff training and organizes the duties and schedule of domestic staff.   
• Managing the household budgets and inventory supplies.   
• Ensuring household maintenance.   
• Supervising household inventory list.
• Assists the Protocol Assistant with planning and organizing parties and events in the home.
• Oversees and participates in proper table settings and entertainment preparation.  
• Serves meals and drinks and performs wait services related thereto.
• Oversees the wine cellar and liqueur inventory.
• Answers resident telephone calls.   
• Shares housekeeping duties with the housekeeper.  (In the event of the housekeeper's absence (i.e. vacation or sick leave, performs all housekeeping duties.)
• Works closely with the Protocol Assistant, Ambassador's OMS and Embassy Personnel as necessary.

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:  Working knowledge of English preferred, but not required.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT (must be met): Ability to pass a background and security investigation.
 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must demonstrate clearly how they meet the Education and Experience requirements listed below:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:
1. At least (1) year of experience in the hospitality industry, especially in a restaurant or hotel.

RATED REQUIREMENTS:  Candidates who meet the Education and Experience requirements will be assessed on the following qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE:
1. Knowledge of the quality assurance practices.
2. Knowledge of budget and inventory preparation necessary to manage a household.
3. Knowledge of dining and reception practices.

ABILITIES:
1.  Ability to manage subordinates effectively.
2.  Ability to work as part of a team and build and nurture networks and alliances
3.  Ability to manage daily activities in household which include official and unofficial receptions and events and the day to day household cleaning and management.
4.  Ability to communicate orally and in writing
5.  Ability to apply procedures for budget management and inventory control.
6.  Ability to supervise
