The Federal Benefits Unit in Zagreb is the Regional Claims-Development post for Social Security applicants and beneficiaries residing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
The Federal Benefits Unit assists those with questions about benefits provided by U.S. federal government agencies such as the Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration, Office of Personnel Management (civil services), and Railroad Retirement Board.
The FBU is open for telephone inquiries Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon.

Basic information is available over the Internet from all of the government agencies for which the Federal Benefits Unit provides service.
These sites are designed primarily for use within the United States. The SSA and VA sites have special pages devoted to beneficiaries living overseas.

Services Provided
- Filing for a Social Security Number or card
- Assistance with continuing benefits such as:
- reporting the death of the beneficiary
- changes of address
- missing payments (lost, stolen or returned checks)
- underpayment of benefits
- submitting an annual enforcement questionnaire
- designation of payee on behalf of children or incapable adults
- burial flags for veterans
