First Time Applicant
If you are applying for a U.S. passport or passport card for the first time, then you must appear in person at the Embassy.
Please contact us by any means listed in the Key Information Box on the right to schedule an appointment.
If you are applying for the first passport for a child under the age of 18 who was born outside the United States, then you must first register the child's birth with the Embassy. You may apply for the child's first passport at the same time.
Application Procedures
Please bring the following with you to the Embassy to apply for your passport:
- completed Passport Application Form DS-11
- two valid photographs
- proof of your citizenship and identity (see below)
- the fee of US$100 if the applicant is age 16 or over, or US$85 if the applicant is under age 16, payable in either dollars or Euros, cash only.
Proof of U.S. citizenship, such as (click on each link to find out how to obtain certified copies, if you no longer have the originals):
Proof of identity, such as:
- a valid passport of any country; or
- a valid driver's license with photograph; or
- a valid national identity card with photograph; or
- a valid U.S. or State government ID card; or
- a valid U.S. military ID card.
We will make photocopies and return your original documents to you when you apply for your U.S. passport.
If your name has changed since the above-listed documents were issued, then please also follow the additional instructions at the Change of Name link.
If you are applying for a first passport for child under the age of 16 who was born in the United States, then you will also be required to follow additional instructions.
