At the Police Academy on March 1, Deputy Chief of Mission Douglas Jones, handed out training certificates to ten Border Police participants in the Green Border Training. This training was funded by the US State Department’s Export Control and Related Border Security Program, also known as EXBS.

The course, delivered by a former member of the United States Customs and Border Security Officer Instructor, addressed the operational principles for maintaining secure borders and operating efficient Border Security Check Points. The training offered techniques that can be tailored for the Montenegrin operational environment. This training included the whole process from what to look for as the vehicle drives up to the check point, to how to conduct complete searches of vehicles. The successful operations of these Border Check points is crucial to the common goal of achieving open, but well controlled and secure borders.

Mr. Jones thanked the Montenegrin Border Police for supporting this training and continuing to increase the level of professionalism within the Border Police. Future growth of Montenegro depends on the safe and secure trade across these borders, and this training and their dedication will help Montenegrins continue to prosper.
