U.S. Consulate Sponsors American Expert on Inclusive Education

From April 18-22, 2005, Dr. Anne Smith, an expert on education reform from the U.S. Department of Education, will be in Montenegro to conduct a workshop and consultations about inclusive education with Montenegrin education professionals and reform leaders. Dr. Smith will present the American and international experiences in areas of education which deal with children with special needs. Dr. Smith's visit is funded by the people of the United States through the U.S. Consulate in Podgorica.
Dr. Smith will conduct a four day workshop for 25 participants from Podgorica including: the Bureau of Education Services which is leading the implementation of educational reforms in Montenegro; the Ministry of Education and the national coordinator for inclusive education; teachers who work with students with special needs; and representatives of associations of parents of handicapped children. The purpose of the workshop is to help Montenegrin educational authorities and practitioners implement the new Law on Education of Children with Special Needs adopted by Montenegro's Parliament in December 2004.
Dr. Smith will give a lecture to students of the Teachers’ faculty in Niksic and will visit some Montenegrin schools and give several media interviews.
