U.S. Consulate Sponsors Municipal Infrastructure Financing Workshop

June 24, 2005

On Monday, June 27, U.S. Consulate Podgorica’s Principal Officer, Hoyt Yee, and Minister of Environmental protection and physical planning Boro Vucinic, will open a workshop for Montenegrin mayors and waterworks general directors of all municipalities in the Hotel Crna Gora in Podgorica.

Infrastructure is a high priority for the economic development of Montenegro and for improving the living standards of its people. The Good Local Governance (GLG) project, funded by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Urban Institute, is facilitating this conference to begin a discussion among municipal and waterworks officials, representatives of the government and international donors, about municipal infrastructure financing mechanisms.

The expected result of this conference is a general consensus on the next steps on towards implementing a mechanism for financing municipal infrastructure in Montenegro.

Journalists interested in covering the opening of the conference should be at the Hotel Crna Gora on Monday, June 27 no later than 09:50.

For more information on the workshop, please contact Sanja Stupar at the Urban Institute via phone 081 618 020, email sstupar@glgurban.cg.yu or visit the web site at www.urbaninstitute.cg.yu.
