U.S. Speakers Highlight Importance of IPR Protection in Montenegro
September 26, 2005
Steven Beck, Producer and President of OnlineRock, and Aaron Boucher of the group "The Autumdivers" participated in a PAS-sponsored speaker program consisting of a series of seminars, consultations and presentations on intellectual property rights (IPRs) in Podgorica from September 19-23. Over 100 Montenegrin musicians, producers, filmmakers, club owners, media representatives, and law enforcement officers participated in some part of the program. The speakers highlighted the importance of the issue from an artist's perspective and helped raise public awareness about IPR protection in Montenegro, which recently adopted an IPR Law that will go into effect January 1, 2006. The program also stressed the importance of protecting IPR as a way to foster and preserve local creativity and culture. The speakers shared the importance and roles of artist associations in the U.S. and how they work to protect their own rights.
