U. S. Provides Training to Montenegrin Law Enforcement Officials for Detecting and Investigating Organized Crime

On March 15, U.S. Consulate Podgorica’s Principal Officer Arlene Ferrill will award certificates to participants in a special two-day training program on detecting and preventing organized crime at the Police Academy in Danilovgrad. Deputy Director of the Police Academy, Radenko Cakovic, U.S. Senior Police Advisor to Montenegro, Larry Plott, and ICITAP Program Manager, Gary Bennett, will also participate in the ceremony.
The training was funded by the American people, through the U.S. Department of Justice and is implemented by instructors from the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP). 12 officials of the Montenegrin Ministry of Interior, precisely Criminal police (10) and Border police (2) participated in the training.
This organized crime training complements the 2006 U.S. Assistance Program for Police Reform in Montenegro funded by the American people through the Department of State and the Department of Justice. The program provides training and equipment to support the reform and modernization of Montenegro’s police. This assistance also includes a Resident Police Advisor to the Police Academy and the Ministry of Interior; the renovation of and equipment for classrooms and other facilities of the Police Academy; equipment and training for a modern forensics laboratory; and training for police officers on investigating trafficking and other organized crime.
