Maine National Guard Commander Visits Montenegro

The Maine National Guard Commander, Major General John Libby, is visiting Montenegro on November 5-9. General Libby will meet with Montenegrin government, military and police leaders and open a seminar for the Montenegrin military to commence the State Partnership Program (SPP) between Montenegro and Maine.

General Libby will meet Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic, Defense Minister Boro Vucinic, Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Jovan Lakcevic, and Police Director Veselin Veljovic to discuss further strengthening of U.S. - Montenegrin civil and military relations.

On November 6, he will open a three-day seminar for the Montenegrin military, stressing how the Maine National Guard is organized and how its mountain infantry units function. On November 7, Gen Libby will participate in wreath-laying ceremonies in Cetinje and at the grave of U.S. Medal of Honor recipient Sergeant James Mestrovich in Djurasevici (Tivat). The Maine delegation will also visit the Regional Underwater De-mining Center andthe Orphanage in Bijela that same day.

Journalists interested in covering the opening of the Maine National Guard seminar should be at the Hotel "Crna Gora" no later than 08:40, on Tuesday November 6. US Ambassador to Montenegro Roderick W. Moore, Major General Libby, Defense Minister Vucinic, and General Lakcevic will speak in the opening ceremony and then will be available for journalists' questions.The accredited cameramen and photo-reporters interested in covering the meetings of Major General Libby with the Montenegrin officials should be at the Villa "Gorica" in Podgorica no later than 10:30 on Tuesday November 6.

On November 7, media interested in covering the wreath laying ceremony in Cetinje should be in front of the Vlaska Church at 08:40. Those interested in the Djurasevici event should be at the village cemetery at 11:10 on the same day. Media interested in Major General Libby's visit to the Underwater De-mining Center in Bijela should arrive at 15:00 and at the Orphanage in Bijela at 16:00 on Wednesday November 7.
