Administrative Officer
Where are you from?
Lima, Ohio...yes, I know... nobody has ever heard of it.
What do you do for the Embassy?
I am currently assigned as the Administrative Officer, Defense Attaché Office, to the U.S. Embassy in Montenegro. As part my duties, I coordinate humanitarian assistance and excess property requests for delivery to Montenegro.
For how long have you lived in Montenegro?
I arrived on September 29, 2007.
What has been the most rewarding part of your time here?
During my time in Montenegro, I have been able to travel around the country and enjoy the generous hospitality of the Montenegrin people. My favorite things about life in Montenegro include the closeness of the seaside and mountains, views of the mountains and meeting new people. If you see me in the street, stop and introduce yourself!
Where were you before your assignment to Montenegro?
My previous assignment was in Astana, Kazakhstan from March 2006 to September 2007, as an Operations Officer. Previous to my assignment in Kazakhstan, I retired from the U.S. Army after serving 22 years.
Do you speak other languages?
I speak a little Russian and I am taking Montenegrin lessons now.
Matt's other overseas assignments include China, Romania and Hungary and he has served for short durations in Senegal, Estonia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. He has served at the White House Communications Agency and at the Joint Military Command Center in the Pentagon.
