Ambassador Moore Hosts Thanksgiving Lunch for Refugees and Displaced Persons
Refugees and IDPs in Montenegro shared their experiences
November 23, 2007
US Ambassador Roderick W. Moore invited refugees and IDPs from Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo to his home to celebrate the traditional American holiday of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving Day is meant to celebrate the cooperation between the pilgrims, who escaped persecution in Europe, and the local population of Native Americans. The pilgrims struggled during their early years in America to survive famine and disease. They survived largely thanks to the assistance they received from the Native Americans who showed them how to farm and survive in the New World. Guests shared their experiences as refugees and IDPs in Montenegro with Ambassador Moore and had an opportunity to discuss their concerns with UNHCR and the Montenegrin Commissioner for Refugees.
