United States of America
Podgorica
On Wednesday, August 23, the U.S. Government representative in Montenegro, Arlene Ferrill, and representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, the Municipality of Podgorica, and International Relief and Development (IRD) will officially deliver modern agricultural equipment to the Association of Agricultural Producers of Piperi in Drezga, part of the municipality of Podgorica.
The total value of the equipment, which includes a tractor with a cabin, a trailer, a plough, a tiller, a hay cutting machine, a hay bailer, a potato planting machine and a potato harvesting machine, is 36,200 dollars. The American people, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), invested 26,300 dollars in the project, while the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Municipality of Podgorica and the Association of Agricultural Producers of Piperi jointly contributed an additional 10,000 dollars. The project is implemented by IRD within the "Community Revitalization through Democratic Action-Economy" (CRDA-E) program.
The new equipment will allow Piperi agro-producers to apply more efficient production technology, increase yields and improve product quality, in order to meet new market standards and become more economically competitive.
This is one of 16 agriculture projects that IRD has implemented within the CRDA-E program. For these 16 projects, USAID has already committed approximately 600,000 dollars since May 2005, from a total of 1.3 million dollars allocated for Southern Montenegro.
Journalists interested in covering this event should be in front of the Community Center in Drezga, Piperi, on Wednesday, August 23 at 10:45.
