Ambassador Michael C. Polt Visits Northern Montenegro

On Friday, September 30, U.S. Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, Michael C. Polt, will visit the Northern Montenegro Municipalities of Rozaje, Berane, and Bijelo Polje. In Rozaje, Ambassador Polt will meet with Rozaje Mayor Nusret Kalac and the party heads of the local assembly. Ambassador Polt will also pay a visit to an orchard of a member of the Berane Fruit Grower's Association with Berane Mayor Relja Jovancevic. In Bijelo Polje, Ambassador Polt will meet with Mayor Tarzan Milosevic and the party heads of the local assembly.

Ambassador Polt, Mayor Milosevic, and the party heads of the Bijelo Polje assembly will also tour the Center for Continental Fruit in Bijelo Polje to highlight recent upgrades made to the facility and its capacities. This upgrade was funded by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by CHF International. The goals of the project were to improve the safety and quality of agricultural products, increase income from farming and fruit growing, improve the competitiveness of agricultural products, certify the Center as an agency authorized to issue safety and quality certificates to producers and processors, and to improve general conditions for the agriculture business in Northern Montenegro. USAID provided $21,000 to the program, the Ministry of Agriculture of Montenegro contributed $3,000, while the Center for Continental Fruit used $2,900 of its own funding, and community participation resulted in another $3,000 for the project.

Photographers and cameramen interested in a photo opportunity with Ambassador Polt, Mayor Kalac, and local party heads, should be at the Rozaje Municipal Building no later than 10:00.

Photographers and cameramen interested in a photo opportunity with Ambassador Polt and Mayor Jovancevic should be at the orchard of the family Milanovic in the village of Donja Rzanica in Berane no later than 11:15.

Journalists interested in covering the visit to the Center for Continental Fruit should be in front of the Center at III Sandzacka Street in Bijelo Polje no later than 15:15.
