U.S.-Montenegro Scientific Cooperation

Reception for the Norman E. Borlaug Agriculture Science Technology Fellowship Program

April 20, 2007

The Office of Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade is organizing a reception for Montenegrin graduates of the US Department of Agriculture Norman E. Borlaug Science and Technology Fellowship Program. The ceremony will be held on April 23, 2007 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Podgorica Hotel in Podgorica.

The Borlaug Fellowship program, launched in 2004, is part of a larger U.S. technical assistance program to foster research and increase capacity in Montenegro. The program's general goal is to build a network of Montenegrin scientists who can participate in science-based policy formulation related to bilateral and international agricultural issues.

The 2006 Montenegro Borlaug Fellowship program involved month-long mentoring visits to several U.S. host universities such as Iowa State, Texas A&M and Michigan State between September and November 2006. The participants learned new research techniques, toured laboratories, and attended professional workshops and seminars. Research areas included: biotechnology, microbiology, plant pathology, animal and plant health diagnostics and food safety.

For more information contact the Agricultural Affairs Office, Mr. Darko Lojen Agricultural Assistant at the American Embassy in Belgrade, at 011 306 4754.

Press interested in covering the reception should be at the Podgorica Hotel in Podgorica no later than 05:30 p.m. on April 23rd.
