U.S. Organizes Conference on Victim Witness Support in War Crimes Cases

The U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Overseas Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT), a program managed by the U.S. Embassy Belgrade Resident Legal Advisor's Office, will sponsor a three-day conference on "War Crimes – Victim/Witness Support Services: Successes and Challenges in Regional Cooperation" at the Hotel "Maestral" in Milocer, Montenegro, from April 25-27.

The conference will feature a comprehensive gathering of top prosecutors, judges, victim/witness coordinators and witness protection officers from the region (Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Macedonia). They will discuss the achievements and future challenges in victim/witness support as well as issues related to regional cooperation. The conference will feature senior officials from the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of State and the International Court for the Former Yugoslavia.

The signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement between the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Belgrade District Court on the cooperation of their Victim/Witness Support Services is planned for the third day of the conference.

Press interested in covering the opening of the conference should be present at the Hotel "Maestral" in Milocer no later than 8:30 am on April 25. Press interested in covering the signing of the agreement should be present at the hotel no later than 9:30 am on April 27.
