U.S. Supports International Conference on Public Administration

June 1, 2006
Consulate of the United States of America
Podgorica

On June 2, U.S. Consulate Podgorica's Principal Officer Arlene Ferrill will open the international conference "Local Self-Government, Economic and Cultural Development" for local government officials from Macedonia, Greece, Serbia, and Montenegro hosted by the Center for Public Administration of Montenegro in Becici.

The public administration conference is part of a program linking the School for Urban and Public Affairs of the University of Texas, Arlington and the Law School of the University of Montenegro and is funded by the American people through the Department of State. The two universities established the Center for Public Administration of Montenegro in 2004. The Center for Public Administration of the University of Kragujevac is helping to coordinate participation by local officials from Serbia.

The Center for Public Administration of Montenegro, in cooperation with its American partner, has organized a series of certification training programs for public servants from eight Montenegrin municipalities on organizational development, human resources, ethics in public administration, economic development, and urban-planning. Proper public administration is a key component to the democratic, economic, and political reform process in transition countries.

Journalists interested in covering the event should be at the hotel "Tara" in Becici no later than 17:45 on Friday, June 2.
