On Friday, July 31st, representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica, Georgetown University, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Media held a press conference to announce the 2009 Regional Youth Basketball Camp to take place in Montenegro from August 3 to 6.  Eight coaches and former basketball players from the Georgetown University in Washington, DC will work with 40 high-school students from Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia to improve the basketball skills and stress the importance of education.

Embassy Public Affairs Officer Alexander Titolo praised the cooperation between the Embassy and Georgetown University, and highlighted the importance of the camp for building mutual understanding in the region. Sead Dizdarevic from the Centre for Intercultural Education and Development at Georgetown University thanked the Department of State and alumni from Georgetown University for financial support of the program.

The 2009 camp, to be held in Kolasin, is a continuation of the Basketball Diplomacy program that began in 2008 with a camp held in Herceg Novi.
