U. S. Embassy Donates School Books to Roma Refugee Children in Podgorica

On Tuesday September 2, U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Roderick W. Moore will present the donation in school books to the Roma refugee students at Konik Camp 2 in Podgorica.  The donation is provided through the U.S. Department of State's Julie V. Taft Fund for Refugees.  The program is named after a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration, and seeks to assist the world’s most vulnerable populations.

U.S. Embassy Podgorica successfully proposed its first Taft nomination this year and will award $20,000 worth of school books to 266 Roma children who attend the elementary school in Konik Camp 2.  Veselj Beganaj, director of NGO Roma Circle, and the Ministry of Education of the Government of Montenegro cooperated on the implementation of this program.

Media interested in covering the meeting of Ambassador Moore with student beneficiaries and their parents should be at Konik Camp 2 in Podgorica no later than 11:15, on Tuesday September 2.
For more details on the donation, please contact Sasa Brajovic from the Embassy at +382 67 28 35 42.
