Steven Dyokas

Economic and Commercial Affairs Officer Steven M. Dyokas

Steven Dyokas has served as Economic and Commercial Affairs Officer at U.S. Embassy Podgorica since October 2009.  Prior to arriving in Montenegro, he worked in Washington at the State Department’s Office of European Union and Regional Affairs, covering EU relations with the Balkan countries, Russia and the states of the former Soviet Union. 

Mr. Dyokas joined the Department of State in 2002.  His first assignment was as Scientific and Technical Affairs Officer at U.S. Embassy Tokyo.  He subsequently served as Consular Officer at U.S. Consulate General Shanghai from 2005-2007.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Dyokas taught in public high schools in both the United States and Japan (where he participated in the Japan Exchange and Teaching [JET] Program.)  He holds a bachelors degree, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago.  Steven and his wife, Junko, met in Japan and were married in 2005.
