U.S. Helps Finance Construction of Stadium in Tuzi
July 4, 2005
On Tuesday July 5, U.S. Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, Michael C. Polt, and the Mayor of Podgorica, Miomir Mugoša, will visit the construction site of the new soccer stadium in Tuzi.
The project was funded by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and implemented by International Relief and Development (IRD) as a part of the Municipal Development Assistance (MDA) segment of the Community Revitalization through Democratic Action (CRDA) Program. USAID has committed $200,000 for the stadium and the Municipality of Podgorica has committed an additional $150,000.
The implementation of this project will stimulate the development of sports activities in the area and will provide numerous opportunities for local economic development. The rehabilitated and upgraded stadium will enable the local soccer club to generate an approximate annual income of €35,000 from ticket sales and commercial advertising.
Journalists interested in covering the event should be at the stadium construction site on Tuesday, July 5th, no later than 16:10.
