U.S. Embassy Appoints Career Prosecutor John Haub as Montenegro Resident Legal Advisor

The U.S. Embassy Podgorica announces that the U. S. Department of Justice, Criminal Division, has selected Assistant U.S. Attorney John Haub for the position of Resident Legal Advisor (RLA) for Montenegro. In this role, Mr. Haub will coordinate U.S. Government assistance connected with promoting the rule of law in Montenegro. In particular, he will work in partnership with Montenegrin judges, prosecutors, and police to enhance their ability to prosecute and adjudicate cases involving corruption, organized crime, and war crimes.
Mr. Haub is currently paying an initial visit to Montenegro. On Tuesday August 12, Mr. Haub accompanied U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Roderick W. Moore to meet with Supreme Court President Vesna Medenica. He will also meet with Deputy Prime Minister Gordana Djurovic, Chief State Prosecutor Ranka Carapic, and Minister of Justice Miras Radovic. Mr. Haub will take up his regular duties in October 2008,.
Mr. Haub has served as a state and Federal prosecutor in the state of Oregon for over 32 years. Before that, he was a police officer and District Attorney’s investigator. He began his career in law as an Army military police officer in Vietnam in 1970. In 1997-1998, he served as Assistant Chief of Staff to Carlos Westendorp, the international High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mr. Haub also served at the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1995.
