U.S. Promotes Student Exchange Program

On October 9, the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica will introduce FORECAST, the undergraduate student exchange program for 2009 -2010, at the American Corner, KIC "Budo Tomovic" in Podgorica.  Nineteen Montenegrin students were selected for full scholarships through this program over the last two years; ten of them are currently attending various U.S. universities during this academic year.

The FORECAST Exchange Program (Focus on Results: Enhancing Capacity Across Sectors in Transition) is implemented by the U.S. NGO "World Learning" in cooperation with the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica.  It is funded by the American people.  World Learning representatives Mary Frances Doyle and Snjezana Mijatovic will present details of the program, including information on the application process.  The program also will be presented at Montenegrin state and private universities.

The FORECAST program provides scholarships for one academic year of undergraduate, non-degree study in the United States. The scholarship covers international/domestic travel, tuition, room and board, accident/sickness insurance, a small monthly stipend, and funding for books.  Students live in university dormitories and have the opportunity to participate in campus organizations and activities and internships. They take part in community service activities in order to gain a better understanding of U.S. society and values.

Media outlets interested in covering this event should be at the American Corner by 15:45, Thursday, October 9.  Requests for individual interviews should be directed to Sasa Brajovic at the U.S. Embassy at +382 67 283 542.
