On September 12, U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Sue K. Brown and President of the Supreme Court and the Judicial Council of Montenegro Vesna Medenica opened the renovated premises of the Basic Court in Podgorica, signifying the successful completion of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2011 by Basic Court Podgorica, USAID and the Good Governance Activity in Montenegro.
The Memorandum of Understanding was the formal framework for implementation of the Court Improvement Plan which included improvements to internal court management and overall court transparency, as well as improvements in internal communication within the court administration.
Overall support for the activities at the Basic Court Podgorica, totaling about 150,000 EUR, was financed with USAID funds and implemented in cooperation between Good Governance Activity and the Change Management Team formed at the court level.
