U.S. Supports Coastal Water and Wastewater Improvements in Montenegro

On Saturday, July 16, U.S. Consulate Podgorica’s Principal Officer, Hoyt Yee, Deputy Prime Minister, Branimir Gvozdenovic, Mayor of Kotor, Marija Catovic, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) representative, Vladan Raznatovic, and Camp Dresser and McKee (CDM) Project Director, Robert C. Blake, will mark the completion of the construction of the Kotor pipeline project as part of the Water and Wastewater Improvements Project for the Montenegrin Coast. Mayors of neighboring municipalities and managers of local water companies have also been invited to attend the ceremony.

The Montenegro Coastal Water and Wastewater Improvements Project is funded with an $8 million donation from the people of the United States through USAID, and implemented by Camp Dresser and McKee (CDM), an American engineering firm. The project's goals are to improve infrastructure critical to the development of tourism and improvements to the environment in the municipalities of Kotor, Budva, and Cetinje.

This project, officially inaugurated in February 2005, includes several improvements to the municipalities’ water and wastewater systems, including new water reservoirs, pipelines, rehabilitation of pumping stations, effluence inspections, leak detection and repairs to water distribution systems.

These projects are part of a total donation of $12 million to Montenegro for economic development and environmental improvements covering all the municipalities in the coastal region.

Journalists interested in covering the completion ceremony should be at the Treci put in Kotor no later than 09:45 on July 16.
